A Typical Day In Our Baby Room
Babies have bottles and cups of juice/water/milk throughout the day not just at break times.
Our planned weekly experiences ensure that all children have an opportunity to join in with each activity; below is just one typical day. Birth to Five, EYFS is incorporated into the daily routines focusing on every child as an individual.
Morning Session Begins
Free Play: The children arrive at nursery and join together in the bigger of the baby rooms where they have the freedom to choose any activity they wish to play with, i.e. activity rings, baby gyms, rattles and play mats for the 0-1's, walkers and floor games and toys are accessible for the 1-2's in the larger rooms.
Breakfast Time: At Breakfast time the children go to their designated rooms where the babies are placed into their low chairs and the 1-2's sit at table and chairs. They are all provided with a drink of milk or boiled water while they wait for their breakfast.
Breakfast is typically weetabix, readybrek, cornflakes or rice crispies, followed by toast.
Free Play/Activities: After breakfast our babies have the freedom to explore their rooms. A wide range of age appropriate toys and games are available and our nursery nurses read, sing and play with the babies during this open play time.
Outdoor Play/Walk: Mid-morning; the babies are taken for outdoor play, on a local walk, or have in-door physical play with the large, age appropriate toys and wet play, water proof clothing is available.
Lunch: They have now worked up an appetite for Lunch; all the babies are offered a meal, the older babies have freshly prepared meals off the menu and the younger babies are provided with pureed dinners or age appropriate solids. If any babies do not eat the lunch, they are always given an alternative, after their busy morning some babies may fall asleep so lunch is given to them later when they wake up.
Quiet Time: Most of the babies will have a sleep after their lunch. We provide a quiet room for them to rest in with mattresses and travel cots. Those who do not need a sleep are given quiet activities such as picture books, soft blocks, jigsaws and stories.
Our babies have a wide selection of age appropriate big indoor equipment such as the ball pond, trampoline and pop up tents.
Cooking/Messy Play: Our babies take part in cooking, where they mix the ingredients together for cookies and chocolate crispy cakes, etc. They also have messy play, which varies from pasta play to squidging their fingers through jelly, Great fun!
Outdoor Play: The babies now have outdoor play with the choice of all the areas to explore; there are cars and balls, tents and swings, and lots more for their imagination to run wild with.
Afternoon break: A typical week will be:
- Monday: Crumpets with a choice of toppings
- Tuesday: Soft cheese/Pate with toasted soldiers, cherry tomatoes and fruit
- Wednesday: Vegetable sticks dips and rice cakes
- Thursday: Tuna on whole meal pitta bread, cucumber and celery sticks
- Friday: Spicy chicken tortilla wraps for the over 1's
- The younger babies have mixed vegetables, fish, pasta, chicken or fruit.
Music/Dancing/Free Play: They now have the opportunity for dancing, singing, nursery rhymes, musical instruments and stories, followed by free play in the baby room, under the watchful eye of their Key Person.
